LESSON FAQ

Is there a waitlist?
Yes and as soon as you submit an inquery above you will be automatically added! Certain days and time slots fill quickly. Spots may open sooner and will be matched with level and avaliability off of the waitlist.

What happens after I submit the lesson request form?
Once you complete the form, our team will reach out to learn more about your goals, talk through scheduling and program options, and help you take the next step in your Kheystone Training journey.

Do you offer lessons for beginners?
Yes! Many of our riders are either brand-new to horses or returning after time away from the saddle. We focus on safety, fundamentals, and building a positive partnership with the horse from day one.

How old do I have to be to start lessons?
Our lesson program begins at age 8. At that age, most riders are ready to focus, build confidence, and safely participate in horsemanship and riding activities. If you’re not sure whether your child is ready, we’re happy to chat about it.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes, in order to protect the long-term soundness and wellbeing of our horses, our program has a rider weight limit of 185lbs. Each horse has different size, build, and workload considerations, and our instructors carefully match riders with horses who can comfortably and safely carry them. If you’re close to that threshold, we’re happy to discuss horse availability and suitability on a case-by-case basis. We’re always happy to talk through options. Our goal is to support both rider success and responsible horse stewardship.

Do riders need their own horse?
No — riders in our program use approved lesson horses.
If, down the road, you’re interested in leasing or purchasing a horse, our team can help guide you through that process.

Does Kheystone offer horses for lease or purchase?
Absolutely. We’re happy to help match riders with horses that fit their experience level, goals, and riding style.
If you’re interested in leasing or purchasing, please email:
info@kheystone.org
Subject line: LEASE / PURCHASE INQUIRY

We’ll connect you with our team to discuss availability, options, and next steps.

How often do most riders take lessons?
Most riders take lessons at least once a week.
If you’re working toward specific goals — or simply want to progress more quickly — riding two or more times per week can really help build strength, balance, and confidence in the saddle. We’ll happily talk through goals and scheduling during your intro call.

What type of horses are used for lessons?
We’re proud of our wonderful herd of lesson horses — from kind, beginner-safe partners to mounts suitable for advanced jumping and dressage work. Each horse has a unique personality and skill set, which allows riders to learn, grow, and progress at a comfortable pace. In short… Yes… there’s plenty of room to level up as you advance.

What riding disciplines are taught?
We offer both English and Western instruction.
As riders gain experience, they’ll have opportunities to explore more specialized areas of riding and develop toward the discipline that best fits their interests and goals.

How much are lessons?
Our lesson program ranges from $460–$625 per month for once-per-week lessons.
Pricing varies based on program placement, instructor level, and lesson format. We’ll review your goals and help determine the best fit during your initial conversation with our team.

What should I wear to my first lesson?
We recommend:

  • long pants or riding breeches

  • closed-toe boots with a small heel

  • comfortable, fitted clothing

Helmets are required — if you don’t have one yet, we’ll provide a properly-fitted helmet for you to use.

Are lessons private or group?
Placement depends experience, and availability.
New riders generally begin with private or semi-private lessons to establish a solid foundation before transitioning into group settings when appropriate.
